Ingredients For Rice Krispie Treats
Rice Krispie treats need just three ingredients, making them your go to recipe.
- Puffed Rice Cereal – Rice Krispies are the obvious choice, but you can also use any generic puffed rice cereal.
- Mini Marshmallows – Regular sized marshmallows will also work, but mini ones melt faster
- Butter
How to Make Classic Rice Krispie Treats
Grab a large pot and let’s get started!
Step 1: Prepare the Pan:
Lightly grease a 9×13 pan with olive oil and set aside.
Step 2: Melt the Butter in a large pot:
Melt the butter in a large pot over low heat. A tall pot will make it easier when you mix in the cereal and will keep it contained in the pot.
Step 3: Add the Marshmallows:
Once the butter is melted, mix in the marshmallows. Stir continuously until they’ve melted down into a smooth, gooey marshmallow sauce. You’ll want to walk away, but don’t do it! The marshmallows will burn easily once they start melting.
Step 4: Mix in the Cereal:
Turn off the heat and add the Rice Krispies. Stir gently making sure each piece of cereal is coated in the sticky marshmallow mixture. At this point, you’ll want to sneak a taste!
Step 5: Spread and Shape:
Spoon the mixture into the prepared 9×13 pan. Gently press the Rice Krispie mixture into the pan. If you press too hard, it the cooled treat will be hard. Pro tip: Use a piece of parchment paper or wax paper to prevent sticking as you press the mixture. Another options is to grease your spatula (or even your hands!)
Step 6: Let it Cool:
Let the treats cool for about 30 minutes before slicing. Though if you’re like me, sneaking a bite while they’re still warm is part of the fun!
Tips for the Best Rice Krispie Treats Ever
- Extra Gooey? Add a little extra butter or marshmallows to make them even softer and chewier. You could even mix in some extra mini marshmallows when you add the cereal for bites of marshmallow.
- Keep It Fresh: To keep your treats from drying out, store them in an airtight container for up to 3 days (if they last that long!).
- Get Creative: Add in chocolate chips, sprinkles, or even drizzle melted chocolate on top for an extra touch of fun. You really can’t mess these up!
